About this place
One dish to look out for at Okuyama is keiran udon. Diners who have tried it mention the noodles in their thickened broth as particularly memorable; some have enjoyed it with rice on the side. Whether to add rice or make the udon the main event is part of the appeal.
Other noodle dishes include kama-age udon, curry udon, zaru udon and zaru soba. One diner paired a bottle of beer with zaru soba on a hot day, a combination to consider for a light noodle lunch.
Set meals include fried horse mackerel, croquettes, fried chicken and salted mackerel. There is also a daily set meal, as well as rice dishes such as oyakodon, omurice and yakimeshi, so there are plenty of options when you are not in the mood for noodles. One diner also praised the oyakodon.
Okuyama opens for lunch and again in the evening, and is described as suitable for solo diners. Payment is cash only, so it is worth bringing some along.
